The true meaning of church goes far beyond a building or Sunday morning routine.
The Greek word ekklesia means an assembly of the called out ones - believers whom God has rescued from the kingdom of darkness and brought into His eternal kingdom. This definition is always plural, emphasizing that we cannot be the church in isolation but only as we gather together in Jesus' name.We gather as the church for four critical reasons that equip us for spiritual warfare. First, we encourage one another - not mere feel-good affirmation, butbuilding each other up to be strong soldiers in the faith when life becomes difficult. Second, we come to be equipped for battle through God's Word, preparing us to share the gospel and stand for truth in our daily environments.Third, we gather to be challenged and called out of sin - not to judge but because we genuinely care about each other's spiritual wellbeing and want to see each other live in God's best. Most importantly, we gather to experience God's presence and power. While the world offers superior entertainment, only the church can provide the transforming presence of God.When God's presence is tangible, it leads to holiness and conviction of sin, not chaos or entertainment. This presence has the power to transform hearts in ways that no worldly attraction can match. We gather now so we can scatter effectively into our daily lives, equipped and empowered to rescue others from darkness and make heaven crowded with souls saved by Jesus Christ.
